Taking a DJ planning idea across four platforms.

The challenge

DJs often prepare with information spread across music libraries, notes and memory.

The product needed to make preparation more structured without turning a creative process into rigid administration. It also needed to remain recognisable across web, Android, Windows and macOS while respecting the different ways people interact with each platform.

The first product question was therefore not how many features could be added. It was which information helps a DJ make the next preparation decision, and how that information should remain close to the tracks being considered.

The approach

The work connected product planning, interface design and cross-platform implementation.

Track BPM, musical keys, suggestions and transition notes were organised around the preparation flow. Working versions made it possible to evaluate terminology, information density and movement between tracks before expanding the feature set.

Shared product concepts kept the experience coherent while each release still required platform-specific attention. Testing covered the core journeys, layout at different sizes and the practical steps needed to package and distribute desktop and mobile builds.

What was delivered

DJNote moved from an idea into working releases for the browser, Android, Windows and macOS.

The project includes a web experience, installable applications and an evolving product workflow. Thomas handled the connected tasks around planning, implementation, testing, packaging and release preparation rather than treating each platform as an unrelated project.

The result is first-hand experience with the complete product cycle: deciding what belongs in an early version, building it, observing where the experience needs refinement and preparing the software for users outside the development environment.

What the project demonstrates

Cross-platform products benefit from one clear product model and deliberate platform decisions.

A shared code or design system can reduce duplication, but it does not remove the need to understand installation, input, navigation and release expectations on each platform. DJNote demonstrates how the core workflow can remain stable while those details adapt.

It also demonstrates why useful software grows through tested releases. A focused first version creates evidence about what users understand and what should be improved next.
